I see Art as a way of helping students discover new perspectives and develop their own ways of seeing, questioning, and experiencing the world around them. My teaching is strongly influenced by inquiry-based, hands-on, and project-based learning. Through my experience with the IB PYP and MYP, I aim to create learning experiences where students can experiment, take creative risks, communicate ideas, and develop confidence in their individual artistic voices.
I am particularly interested in contemporary art and in exploring how contemporary artistic practices, ideas, and approaches can be brought into the classroom. I enjoy using project-based learning to give students opportunities to experiment, investigate, make connections, and develop their own artistic voices. I also see STEAM as a natural extension of contemporary art practice, particularly where artists work across disciplines, materials, technologies, and different ways of thinking. My aim is to keep Art at the centre while encouraging students to explore how it can connect with the world around them.
My own practice as a professional artist continues to inform my teaching. I believe that being an active artist allows me to bring authentic creative processes, experimentation, and contemporary artistic practices into the classroom. Whether students are painting, printing, building, collaborating on a large-scale project, or exploring new materials, my goal is to help them become curious, open-minded, and confident creators.
